Festival : It is almost that time of the year again, your guide for Coachella

Last April, I went to Coachella for the first time. The festival was on my list for years, but it was never the good time until 2017.

If you are a first timer, there are a couple of things you need to know.

Here is what I think you need to know before you head to the desert :

  •  Tickets :

The tickets sale takes place in general during the first week of January on the Coachella website. 2 type of tickets are available, General Admission (around 400 dollars) and VIP (around 1000 dollars). The tickets are sold out in general within 30 minutes after their release, if you want to get a ticket, you absolutely need to be on the website on time (the exact hour is generally communicated a few days before on the website) and if you can, ask a few friends to do the same, the more devices connected, the more chance you have to get a ticket on the official website.

There are 2 weekends with the same line up, however, the first weekend is more popular as you get all the surprises and guest performers.

  • Stay :

The most affordable option for accomodation is the camping. BUT, if you are seeking some comfort, you could stay in a hotel or an AirBnB in one the cities close to the festival. The coolest/closest city is Palm Springs. I stayed there last year and I absolutely enjoyed. There are a lot of cool hotels and a lot of parties take place during the Coachella weekend in Palm Springs itself : Pool parties during the day and After Parties in the night.

  • Get there :

If you are flying from outside the US (it was my case, i flew all the way from Paris), it is better to fly to LAX, rent a car and drive to Palm Springs or Coachella directly.

There is an airport in Palm Springs, But i wouldn’t recommend as the tickets would be quite expensive, also you would miss all the fun driving through the Californian desert.

  • Parking or Shuttle ? :

If you are planning to take your car to the festival, forget it. Just leave your car where you are staying ! The Coachella shuttle pass is a better option,  the shuttle route is on the official website, you could check where you could meet one in general in front of the big hotels of Palm Springs.

These are the basics you need to know before going to the festival, the rest is all the fun about the fashion, the food and the booze.
